About MHPL

Mpatamanga Hydro Power Limited (MHPL) is a company established in 2022 to develop, finance, construct, own and operate the Mpatamanga Hydropower Storage Project.

MHPL is headquartered in Blantyre, Malawi.

MHPL is currently owned by EDF Development Africa, a subsidiary of EDF power solutions, and SN Malawi BV (owned by TotalEnergies, British International Investment (BII) and Norfund), each owning 50%.

The planned ownership structure for MHPL at Financial Close is as follows: Government of Malawi through EGENCO (30%), EDF (27.5%), SN Malawi BV (27.5%), and International Finance Corporation, World Bank Group (15%).

Mission

At MHPL, our mission is to contribute to the development of the energy sector in Malawi through clean and reliable electricity generation. We are now developing and financing the Mpatamanga Hydropower Storage Project (MHSP) and tomorrow we will build and operate it during 30 years.

We are committed to implementing the highest international and national standards in environmental, social, and health and safety practices. We work in partnership and with respect for the local communities hosting the Mpatamanga project. We aim to apply the best technical and industrial standards.

We want to make Mpatamanga a success story in human, social, environmental, and industrial development for Malawi.
